J&K Chief Secretary Orders Strict Enforcement of GST Rate Cuts for Consumer Benefit
The Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has issued strict directives to all concerned government departments to ensure the immediate and complete enforcement of the recent GST rate rationalization so that the tax benefits are passed on to the final consumers.
Key Directives for Enforcement
- Proactive Monitoring: The order mandates intensified market surveillance and monitoring by the relevant departments, including the State Taxes Department and the Legal Metrology Department.
- Preventing Hoarding and Overpricing: The primary goal is to check for instances of hoarding, artificial price hikes, or failure by traders to reflect the reduced GST rates in the final Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of goods.
- Inter-Departmental Coordination: The Chief Secretary stressed the need for close coordination among various enforcement agencies to swiftly address any consumer grievances and take prompt, punitive action against businesses found to be engaging in anti-profiteering practices.
- Ensuring Affordability: This directive is part of the broader J&K administration’s commitment to ensure that the GST 2.0 reforms, which aimed to boost affordability and demand, successfully translate into real price relief for the common people of the Union Territory.
