J & K : Exemption from Tax Payment to hotels, lodges and guest houses

Exemption period extended for hotels, lodges & guest houses upto 31.03.2017

Effective Date: 01st July, 2016

The Jammu & Kashmir Government has extended the exemption from payment of tax by hotels, lodges and guest houses providing lodging facilities from 30.06.2016 to 31.03.2017.

SRO 164.- In exercise of powers conferred by section 5 of the Jammu and Kashmir General Sales Tax Act, 1962, the Government hereby direct that in notification SRO 109 dated 31.03.2016, for the
figures and words “30th of June, 2016”, the figures and words “31 st of March, 2017” shall be substituted.

Note : Principal Notification No SRO No 43 was published Dated 28.02.2014  which says that “In exercise of the powers , conferred by section 5 of the Jammu and Kashmir General Sales Tax  Act 1962, the government hereby direct that the services provided in the shape of lodging facilities by hotels , lodges and guest houses shall be exempted from the payment of tax , leviable under the said act upto 31.03.2015 “. The notification shall come into effect from 01.04.2014 .

This Date of 31.03.2015 has been extended by the Government

-to 31.03.2016 vide notification No SRO no 102 Dated 31.03.2015

– to 30.06.2016 Vide  notification No SRO no 109 Dated 31.03.2016

-to 31.03.2017 Vide  notification No SRO no 164 Dated 30.05.2016
