Jurisdictional Assessing Officer in Income Tax

A jurisdictional assessing officer (AO) is an income tax officer who has the authority to make an assessment of a taxpayer.

The AO can give judgments, make assessments, and make decisions for the income tax issues.

The AO can also ask the taxpayer to provide books of account and other details for tax verification.

How to find out Jurisdictional Assessing Officer in Income Tax

To find your jurisdictional AO, you can do

Without login to Income Tax Website

  • go to the e-Filing portal homepage https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ and click Know Your AO under quick links on left hand side of website.
  •  You will need to enter your PAN and a valid mobile number and click Continue.
  • You will receive a 6-digit OTP on your mobile number that you need to enter on the portal.
  • Then you will see your AO details such
    • Areas Code,
    • AO Type ,
    • Range Code ,
    • AO Number
    • Taxpayer jurisdiction
    • Building name
    • Email ID .

After login to Income Tax Website

  • go to the e-Filing portal homepage https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ and login with user ID and password
  • click My Profile on the top right hand side.
  • Go to Jurisdiction detail tab on the left hand side
  • Then you will see your Assessing Officer details such
    • Areas Code,
    • AO Type ,
    • Range Code ,
    • AO Number
    • jurisdiction
    • Building name
    • Email ID .
