Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) kicks off today, June 8, 2026.

This year’s conference is shaping up to be one of the most critical in Apple’s history, heavily focused on a massive artificial intelligence comeback and structural ecosystem stability. What to Expect: The Big Announcements

1. Siri 2.0 (Codename: “Campo”)

The centerpiece of WWDC 2026 is a complete ground-up rebuild of Siri, transforming it from a voice assistant into an advanced AI chatbot companion.

• Cross-App Intelligence: Siri will be able to read on-screen context and orchestrate tasks deep inside apps—like pulling info from an email, cross-referencing your calendar, and drafting a text response.

• Multi-Step Chaining: Users can issue multiple commands in a single prompt (e.g., “Check the weather, log a meeting for 3 PM, and text Sarah that I’ll be there”).

• Interface Redesign: Siri is expected to move away from the bottom-glowing orb and instead activate smoothly out of the Dynamic Island with rich-text response cards.

• Dedicated Siri App: A standalone chat-thread interface across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS supporting text, file/photo uploads, and iCloud sync.

2. Deepening AI Partnerships & Ecosystem

• The Gemini Infrastructure: In a major shift, Apple is relying heavily on a multi-billion dollar partnership with Google. Google is reportedly hosting much of the new Siri’s cloud AI infrastructure on its servers.

• LLM Flexibility: Beyond ChatGPT, Apple’s system-wide AI tools are rumored to allow users to toggle and choose between different third-party models, including Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude.

Swiping down from the top-center of the display on iOS 27 will no longer pull down notifications (which are moving to a top-left swipe). Instead, it will reveal a typing-first Search or Ask AI panel. This serving hub will combine app launching, system searches, shortcuts, and direct AI assistance in one centralized location.

4. iOS 27 & Software Updates

Unlike previous visual overhauls, iOS 27, macOS 27, and iPadOS 27 are being described as a “Snow Leopard” style release—heavily prioritizing performance pass, system stability, bug reduction, and optimized battery life.

• Camera & Visual Intelligence: The Camera app gets a customizable widget bar and upgraded Visual Intelligence capabilities (Apple’s Lens competitor) to recognize nutrition labels, pull contact data, and scan objects.

• Foldable Groundwork: Under-the-hood structural changes are reportedly being introduced to lay the OS foundation for Apple’s long-rumored foldable hybrid devices expected later this year.

• No Hardware Expected: Because Apple refreshed the MacBook Neo, iPhone 17e, and M5 Macs earlier this year, the entire 5-day event (June 8–12) will remain strictly focused on software, AI, and developer APIs.
