On July 28, 2026, India secured two historic silver medals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games courtesy of Gulveer Singh’s groundbreaking 10,000m track performance and Harjinder Kaur’s record-breaking weightlifting campaign, moving India’s total tally to 12 medals (2 gold, 7 silver, 3 bronze). [1]

• The Achievement: Gulveer Singh became the first Indian man ever to win a long-distance track medal at the Commonwealth Games.
• The Performance: Battling heavy downpours and a heavily waterlogged track, he recorded a time of 27:49.78 in the men’s 10,000m final.
• The Finish: He crossed the finish line a mere 0.85 seconds behind the gold-medal winner, Ky Robinson of Australia (27:48.93). [1, 2]

• The Achievement: Harjinder Kaur secured the silver medal in the women’s 69kg weightlifting division, upgrading the bronze medal she earned at Birmingham in 2022. [1, 2]
• The Performance: She recorded a personal-best combined total of 227kg. She accomplished this by pulling off a 101kg lift in the snatch and a 126kg lift in the clean and jerk. [3, 4]
• The Records: During her highly competitive routine, Harjinder shattered the existing Commonwealth Games discipline record twice before Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau responded with a massive 240kg total to capture the gold medal. [1, 4]

• Boxing Gains: Three Indian pugilists—reigning Asian champion Priya Ghanghas, Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Pawar, and Jadumani Singh—all advanced to the semifinals to guarantee India at least three additional bronze medals. [1]
• Athletics Progress: National 400m record holder Vishal TK secured a safe passage into the men’s 400m semifinals by taking second place in his opening round heat with a time of 46.49 seconds. [1]
