Use Gemini in Google Forms to quickly create a new quiz

Help me create in Google Forms now supports generating quizzes.

With this launch, you can quickly create a quiz by writing a specific prompt for Help me create describing the quiz you want to create. Your prompt can reference Google Drive files like Docs, Slides or PDFs to use as sources for the quiz, should you choose.

Gemini then generates a quiz incorporating details from any files you reference, with appropriate quiz settings, including correct answers for each question. Gemini supports different question types like multiple choice, grid, checkboxes, and grid question types.

You can preview the quiz after it’s generated, and adjust the content of the generated quiz after inserting it, as needed.

Getting started

Admins: To access Gemini in the side panel of Workspace apps, users need to have smart features and personalization turned on. Admins can turn on default personalization setting for their users in the Admin console. Visit the Help Center to learn more.
End users: Visit the Help Center to learn more about creating a form or quiz with Gemini in Google Form.

To quickly create a new quiz using Gemini in Google Forms, open a blank form at Google Forms and use the built-in “Help me create a form” side panel to prompt the AI to build your quiz automatically. This feature automatically configures appropriate quiz settings and includes the correct answer keys for the generated questions. [1, 2, 3, 4]

How to Create a Quiz with Gemini

Open a blank form: On your desktop computer, go to Google Forms. [3]
Access Gemini: Locate the Help me create a form box that automatically appears on the side or top of the screen. [2, 5]
Write your quiz prompt: In the text box, describe the quiz you want to build.
- Example prompt: “Create a 10-question high school level biology quiz about cell structures using multiple-choice questions.” [1, 6, 7]
Reference source files (Optional): Type @ followed by the name of a file to pull information directly from a document in your Google Drive. You can use Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or PDFs as source material. [2, 6, 7, 8]
Generate and preview: Click Create. Gemini will generate the layout, question types (such as multiple choice, checkboxes, or grids), and auto-assign the correct answers. [1, 4, 7, 8]
Finalize: Review the generated draft and click Create form to place it directly into your Google Forms editor. [3, 7]

Expand or Improve Your Quiz

Suggest Questions: If you already have at least two questions typed out, click the Suggest questions button at the bottom of the form to let Gemini generate additional context-specific question options. [5, 9]
Summarize Responses: Once students or participants submit their entries, go to the Responses tab to have Gemini generate AI summaries of short-answer text fields. [10]
