New TAN APPLICATION forms Income Tax Rules 2026 pdf Download
Under the Income Tax Rules, 2026, the application process for obtaining a Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN) has been simplified and restructured to address varying KYC requirements for different types of applicants.
Here are the key points regarding the new TAN framework:
- Splitting of the Old Form: The old multi-purpose TAN application Form 49B has been split into two distinct, category-specific forms to ensure applicants only need to fill out relevant information.
- Form No. 134 (For Government Entities): This form is tailored exclusively for government entities, such as Central, State, and Local Authorities. When applying through this form, it is mandatory to provide an Accounts Office Identification Number (AIN) and a certificate issued by the PAO/ZAO/DTO/CDDO. Additionally, it mandates providing the name, PAN, and mobile number of the person responsible for tax deduction to establish genuineness. - Form No. 135 (For Non-Government Entities): This form is applicable to all non-government applicants, including individuals, HUFs, businesses, LLPs, firms, and companies. It makes the submission of PAN mandatory for better traceability, along with requiring a Corporate Identity Number (CIN) for companies and registration numbers for LLPs. Applicants are also required to submit mandatory supporting documents, including Proof of Identity, Proof of Address, and Proof of Date of Birth or Incorporation. - Application Process and Fees: Applications can be submitted online (via Protean or the MCA portal) or offline at authorized PAN Centers. The application requires a fee of ₹77 (inclusive of GST). Once the application is finally submitted, edits are not permitted; any subsequent changes must be made through a separate TAN correction application.
- Applicability Date and Existing TANs: The new forms will be used exclusively for fresh TAN applications filed on or after April 1, 2026. If you already hold a TAN, there is no need to reapply; existing TANs remain perfectly valid and will continue to operate seamlessly under the Income-tax Act, 2025.
