How to Pay TDS online from April 2026
The Article explains that starting from April 2026, a new TDS payment system is in effect under the ‘New Income-tax Act’. Here are the steps to pay TDS online
(If TDS deducted and Payment made in April 2026 then TDS to be paid as per Income tax act 2025 as detailed below ( Note if TDS deducted or Payment made in March 2026 then TDS has to be paid as per Old Income Tax act 1961)
- Login: Log in to the income tax portal (income-tax.gov.in) using your TAN
- Navigate to e-Pay Tax: Go to the ‘e-File’ menu and select the ‘e-Pay Tax’ option
- Select New Act: Choose the ‘New Income-tax Act’ option for payments pertaining to April 2026 and onwards
- Provide Payment Details: Proceed by selecting the appropriate tax type (e.g., TDS on salary, non-salary, or TCS)
- Select Sections: Under the new system, you can select multiple TDS codes (up to 20) within a single challan
- Enter Amounts: Input the TDS amount, including any applicable interest, late fees, or penalties in the specified columns
- Verification: Review the payment summary, confirm the residential status and the number of codes selected, and then click ‘Continue’ to complete the payment through your preferred mode (e.g., net banking, debit card, UPI)
- Download Challan: Once the payment is successful, ensure you download the challan for future use during TDS return filing
