The document NRI-13 is an official State Bank of India (SBI) “Letter of Authority for collecting documents” used by account holders to authorize a third party to collect specific items on their behalf.

1. Authorization Scope

  • The account holder(s) must specify their name, account number, and the branch name or code.

     

  • The authority is granted to a specific individual (Mr./Ms./Mrs.) who must be a close relative of the account holder.

  • The relationship to the account holder must be explicitly stated on the form.

  • The form allows for the collection of up to five specific documents or items, which must be listed by the applicant.

2. Identification Requirements for the Authorized Person

The authorized individual must prove their identity and address using one of the following methods:

  • Attestation: Their specimen signature and photograph must be duly attested by the account holder(s).

     

  • Identity Proof: They must provide one valid ID, such as a Passport, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter Card, Driving Licence, NREGA Card, or Government/Defense ID.

     

  • Address Proof: They must provide a document such as a recent utility bill (telephone/electricity), bank statement (not more than 3 months old), registered lease agreement, or a letter from a recognized public authority.

3. Verification and Signatures

  • The account holder(s) must provide their signature(s) along with the date and place of the request.

  • The authorized person’s photograph must be signed across by the account holder.

  • The bank official must sign and stamp the “Customer Acknowledgement Copy” if the form is submitted in person, which serves as a receipt for the account holder.

4. Internal Branch Use

  • The form includes a dedicated section for branch officials to record the Branch Code, Receipt Date, and the date the action was taken.
