Heritage sites under Archaeological Survey of India
Mandate of the Archaeological Survey of India covers conservation, preservation and maintenance of all centrally protected monuments/archaeological sites under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 including 506 in Karnataka. Funds earmarked for this purpose are utilized for preservation and upkeep including development of site. Archaeological Survey of India has provided visitor amenities such as drinking water, toilets, facilities for physically challenged, pathways, signage, parking, cloak rooms, publication counters, etc. are provided besides gardening/landscaping at monuments/sites.
During the Survey conducted from 1.4.2015 to 31.12.2015, 1424 number of sites have been reported. The State-wise/UT-wise details are given below:-
