A new way to explore the web with AI Mode in Chrome to simplify your shopping experience
AI Mode in Chrome
Chrome’s AI Mode (powered by Gemini) is transforming how we handle the “grunt work” of shopping. Instead of juggling dozens of tabs and comparing specs manually, the browser now acts as a proactive shopping assistant.
Here is how these new features simplify your experience:
1. Side-by-Side Research
Chrome now supports a Side-by-Side AI Mode on desktop. This allows you to keep a product page open while the AI panel sits next to it. You can:
-
Ask Live Questions: Point to a specific detail on the page (e.g., “Is this material waterproof?”) without leaving the site.
-
Contextual Comparison: Ask the AI to compare the item you’re looking at with a different product from another tab or your recent search history.
2. Multi-Tab “Intelligent” Search
Instead of searching one item at a time, you can now include multiple open tabs in a single query.
-
The Benefit: If you have three different laptops open in separate tabs, you can ask AI Mode to “Create a comparison table of these three laptops based on battery life and price.” It pulls data from all active pages simultaneously.
3. Agentic Commerce & “Native Checkout”
Through the new Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), Chrome is moving toward “Agentic Commerce.”
-
One-Click Checkout: For partnered retailers (like Shopify, Target, and Walmart), you can complete a purchase directly within the AI interface. You no longer need to navigate through external checkout funnels, fill out addresses, or create new accounts for every site.
-
Loyalty Integration: The AI can automatically apply your existing loyalty benefits or member discounts during this process, ensuring you get the best price without hunting for coupons.
4. Smart Discovery Tools
-
Visual Search 2.0: With an improved “Circle to Search” and Lens integration, you can circle an entire outfit in an image, and Chrome will deconstruct it, finding shoppable matches for every individual piece (shoes, pants, accessories) at once.
-
Virtual Try-On: This feature has expanded significantly, allowing you to see how apparel looks on various body types or even your own uploaded photos directly from the browser’s shopping results.
5. Personalized “Direct Offers”
Instead of generic ads, AI Mode now surfaces Direct Offers. These are tailored deals—like specific product bundles or limited-time discounts—that appear when the AI detects high intent, helping you finalize a decision with added value.
Tip: You can access these features through the “plus” menu in the Chrome search bar or by opening the Gemini side panel while browsing.

Google has recently introduced a major evolution to AI Mode in Chrome (April 2026), moving beyond simple summaries to a more integrated, “AI-native” browsing experience. The core goal is to eliminate “tab hopping” by bringing AI tools directly into your active workflow. from shopping experience
