SBI Request for change in Mode of Operation to ‘Former or Survivor’ in NRO Account

The document NRI-22 is an official State Bank of India (SBI) request form used to modify the operational instructions of a joint NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) account.

1. Specific Use Case

• This form is specifically intended for joint accounts where the first account holder is an NRI and the second or subsequent account holders are Resident Indians.

   

• It is used to change the existing mode of operation to “Former or Survivor”.

2. “Former or Survivor” Definition

• Under this specific mode of operation, the “Former” (the NRI) is the primary person authorized to operate the account.

• The “Survivor” (the Resident Indian) typically gains operational rights only after the demise of the Former.

3. Required Information

• Applicants must provide the names of all account holders and the specific NRO account number(s) affected by the change.

• If the request follows a specific communication from the bank, the relevant letter number and date must be referenced.

• The form requires the signature of both the 1st Applicant and the 2nd Applicant, along with the date and place of signing.

   

4. Verification and Receipt

• The form includes a Customer Acknowledgement Copy that must be signed and stamped by an authorized official if submitted in person.

   

• The bank maintains a “Branch Use” section to record the branch code, the date the receipt was acknowledged, and the date the action was finalized.
