Announcing Apple’s next big step for Siri and iPhone

Apple’s massive keynote at WWDC 2026 officially marked the beginning of a new era for its ecosystem. Following a couple of years of delays and intense anticipation, Apple completely rebuilt its voice assistant from the ground up, rebranding it as “Siri AI.”

The update represents a massive shift toward “agentic” artificial intelligence, heavily integrated with the next generation of Apple Intelligence and built via a partnership utilizing technologies from Google’s Gemini models.

Here is a breakdown of the biggest changes coming to Siri and the iPhone with iOS 27:

1. The All-New “Siri AI”

Siri is moving away from a basic QA tool to a fully context-aware, conversational AI agent. Announcing

  • True Multiturn Conversations: Siri can now handle complex, chained, multi-step requests. For instance, you can ask about a concert, have Siri find out when tickets go on sale, and tell it to set a calendar reminder—all in one fluid conversation without repeating details.

  • Cross-App & Personal Context: The assistant can securely securely parse your personal data across Messages, Mail, Photos, Files, and Calendars. If you ask, “What was that dessert my friend mentioned last week?” Siri will track it down in your chat history, help you compile a menu for a watch party, draft an invitation email, and present it for you to review.

  • Dedicated Siri App: For the first time, Siri gets its own standalone app. Your conversation histories are fully saved and synced via iCloud, letting you start a task on your Mac or Apple Watch and seamlessly pick it up on your iPhone.

2. Deep Screen and Visual Intelligence

Siri can now dynamically “see” and interact with what is happening on your device or in front of you.

  • On-Screen Awareness: If you are looking at a document, web page, or flight confirmation email, you can ask Siri to take actions directly based on that visual context (e.g., adding flight details directly to your calendar or checking the weather at the destination).

  • Camera-Based Visual Intelligence: Directly integrated into the iPhone’s Camera app, you can point your phone at objects in the real world to get instant information. Demos showed users pointing the camera at food to pull up nutritional information or pointing it at a restaurant bill to instantly split it via Apple Cash.

3. System-Wide Integration & iOS 27 Improvements

Beyond the voice assistant itself, Apple Intelligence is embedding itself deeper into the broader iPhone user experience:

  • The Interface: Siri AI now lives inside a redesigned Dynamic Island. You can access it by swiping down from the Island, holding the side button, or using voice commands. There are also new expressiveness and pacing sliders so you can micro-adjust exactly how Siri’s voice sounds.

  • Smarter Communication Apps: Mail and Messages feature Smart Replies that learn to mimic your personal writing style. A new Call Context feature in the Phone app automatically pulls relevant info (like a confirmation code from an old email) right as you call a business.

  • Liquid Glass UI Redesign: iOS 27 refines the visual design language by introducing a transparency slider in Settings, letting users adjust app backgrounds from fully opaque to entirely translucent to favor better visibility.

  • The “Fix-It” Performance Boost: Under the hood, iOS 27 delivers major speed optimizations. App launches are up to 30% faster, and photo library surfing is up to 70% quicker—stretching optimization all the way down to older hardware.

Availability

Siri AI and the developer betas for iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, and iPadOS 27 are available immediately for developers. Public betas are slated to drop later this summer, with a wider public rollout scheduled for September 2026.

Initially, the advanced Siri AI capabilities will launch in English and will require an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 series, or later models (as well as M1-and-later iPads and Macs). from Announcing
