Import and create combo charts in Google Sheets
Google Sheets now offers enhanced support for combo charts, providing a more seamless experience when creating multi-series visualizations. Users can create new “Combo” chart types, enabling complex dataset visualization with different scales and metrics without requiring manual re-plotting. These include:
- Clustered Column – Line
- Clustered Column – Line on Secondary Axis
- Custom Combo

Getting started
- Admins: There is no admin control for this feature.
- End users: Visit the Help Center to learn more about adding and editing a chart in Google Sheets.
Rollout pace
- Rapid Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on July 20, 2026
- Scheduled Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on August 4, 2026
Availability
- Available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google accounts
Resources
- Google Docs Editors Help: Add & edit a chart or graph
- From CSV or Excel files: Click File > Import, select your file, and choose Replace spreadsheet or Insert new sheet(s).
- From other Google Sheets: Use the formula to dynamically sync data from a separate file. [4, 5, 6, 7, 8]
- Select Data: Highlight the data range you want to visualize, including your row and column headers.
- Insert Chart: Click Insert > Chart from the top menu bar.
- Set Chart Type: In the Chart editor panel on the right side, open the Chart type dropdown menu under the Setup tab. Scroll down and select Combo chart (usually under the Line or Column categories). [9]
- Open the Customize tab in the Chart editor.
- Expand the Series dropdown section.
- Select the specific data series you want to change (e.g., your secondary metric).
- Change its Type to Line or Area, then toggle the Axis option from Left axis to Right axis. [11, 12]
- Clustered Column – Line: Best for mixing data types with similar scales.
- Clustered Column – Line on Secondary Axis: Instantly creates a dual-axis layout for metrics with different units.
- Custom Combo: Offers complete flexibility to mix lines, bars, and area layouts. [1, 13, 14, 15, 16]
