View Google Chat usage metrics in Gemini reports dashboard
Admins can now access Google Chat usage metrics in the Gemini reports dashboard across both organization- and user-level reports.
At the organization level, this allows admins to track active Gemini users in Google Chat, analyze usage trends, and identify who benefits most from Gemini-powered summarization and generation features.
At the user level, admins can now view the level of Gemini adoption for specific users who actively engage with the app.
This launch also updates a few Gemini summarization interactions in Chat to “Active” as they are initiated by the user. Given this, you may see updated metrics reported for active users and overall usage of Chat.

Key Metrics Available
- Organization-Level Metrics: Track the total count of active Gemini users in Google Chat. This helps you analyze overall usage trends and determine which departments or organizational units (OUs) benefit most from features like summarization and content generation. [1, 2]
- User-Level Metrics: Identify specific employees who are actively using Gemini within their chat workflows. This helps assess license adoption and identify power users. [1, 2]
- Updated Interaction Triggers: Several manual summarization interactions in Chat are now properly classified as “Active” user engagements. You may notice an uptick in overall reported active user metrics due to this precision change. [1]
Step-by-Step Instructions to Access the Dashboard

Troubleshooting Blank Dashboards
- License Allocation: Verify that employees have been correctly assigned eligible Gemini Workspace licenses (such as Gemini Business, Enterprise, or Education). [3]
- Rollout Delay: Newly introduced metrics can take a short time to propagate fully across certain Workspace tenants. [3]
- Feature Limits: For broader insights, check the “Adoption per App” charts. This reveals if specific teams have hit their temporary usage caps and require license upgrades. [4]
- Which Workspace edition you currently run
- If you need help exporting these metrics to a spreadsheet
- Whether you want strategies to drive AI adoption among low-use teams [3, 4]
