873. SHRI NARESH GUJRAL: Will the Minister of FINANCE be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that after the introduction of Goods and Service Tax (GST), all books (other than text books) and Art works would be subjected to GST rates as determined by the GST Council;
(b) whether it will not adversely impact promotion of our culture; and
(c) whether Government will consider keeping these out of the GST ambit?
Answer by THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE (SHRI JAYANT SINHA):
(a) Yes, Sir.
(b) No, Sir
(c) No, Sir. The proposed Goods and Service Tax (GST) Council will be headed by the Union Finance Minister and Ministers in charge of Finance and Taxation of the States as members. The GST Council shall make recommendations to the Union and States on the goods and services that may be subjected to or be exempted from the Goods and Services Tax.
