Compensation to Family Members of Martyrs

The Government has not sought assistance from corporate houses to assist the families of deceased Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles (AR) personnel. However, Sarojini Damodaran Foundation (SDF), Bangalore has recently provided scholarships from the academic year 2015-16 to the wards of CAPFs & AR personnel who sacrificed their lives for the Nation.

The Government has taken following steps.

(i) Ex-Gratia lump sum compensation @ Rs.15 lakh for death on active duty and @ Rs.10 lakh for death on duty, as the case may be, is entitled to Next of Kin of the deceased CAPFs & AR personnel.

(ii) In case of death while on duty, Next of Kin (NoK) of deceased CAPFs & AR personnel are entitled for extra ordinary family pension as computed in terms of Central Civil Services (Extra Ordinary Pension) Rules and scheme for Liberalized Pensionary Award.

(iii) Under the Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme, an amount @ Rs.2250/- p.m. for girls and Rs.2000/- p.m. for boys is being released to the wards of deceased, retired and serving CAPFs & AR personnel. Scholarships has been increased from 910 to 2000 additional scholarship per annum from this academic year 2015-16.

(iv) There is a reserved 09 MBBS and 02 BDS seats for the wards of CAPFs & AR personnel.

(v) A Central Police Canteen has been introduced on 18/09/2006 to provide consumer goods of wide range and variety at desirable locations at cheaper rates.

(vi) A Welfare and Rehabilitation Board has been established on 17/05/2007 for the welfare and rehabilitation of CAPFs & AR personnel and their families including disabled personnel.

(vii) 5% vacancies reserved in Group “C” & “D” for compassionate appointments for NoK of the deceased CAPFs & AR personnel.

(viii) In addition to above, CAPFs & AR have their own welfare schemes and funds which are raised at force level to look after the needs of personnel and their families.

This was stated by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju in a written reply to a question by Shri Vinayak Bhaurao Raut in the Lok Sabha today.
