New Import Regulations for Solar and Wind Energy Components Effective from November 1, 2025
The government has announced that new import regulations specifically targeting components used in the solar and wind energy sectors will come into effect from November 1, 2025.
Key Focus of the Regulations
- Quality Control and Standards: The primary objective of these new regulations is to ensure the quality and reliability of renewable energy components being imported into India. This is likely done through mandating compliance with specific Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certifications or other quality control measures.
- Impact on Importers: Importers of items such as solar photovoltaic (PV) cells, modules, and various components for wind energy generators will now be required to adhere to the revised norms to obtain clearance from Customs authorities.
- Support for Domestic Manufacturing: These measures are part of a broader policy push to support and protect the domestic manufacturing of renewable energy equipment, while also ensuring that all items used in India’s green energy drive meet high-quality benchmarks.
- Effective Date: The regulations will be enforced beginning November 1, 2025.
