Welcome to Sail Tower, our newest Austin office

Welcome to Sail Tower, our newest Austin office

The building features a Google.org nonprofit venue, bringing together nonprofits, community members and Googlers.

Google been a proud part of the Austin community for nearly 20 years, moving from our first campus in North Austin to our current one downtown and growing to thousands of employees. And now, we’re deepening our commitment to the Lone Star State with our newest office and Google.org nonprofit venue at Sail Tower.

Located in the heart of the city, this iconic sail-shaped building is a celebration of Texas culture, greeting Googlers with bright colors and local artwork. Google designed each floor around a different Texas region, paying homage to the desert wildflowers of Big Bend, the hiking trails of Hill Country, and the thunderstorms of Marfa. The workspace also provides a variety of flexible areas for collaboration, innovation, and focused work, including outdoor terraces with native Texas plants and inspiring views.

Beyond serving as a new home for Googlers, Sail Tower will also welcome in the Austin community. We’re opening a new Google.org venue for nonprofit programming, and local (Austin metro area) nonprofits can book the space for board meetings, workshops, classes, and community events at no cost. Learn more.

“Spaces like this are absolutely vital for Austin’s nonprofit community,” said Austin Mayor Kirk Watson. “When good neighbors and partners like Google open doors to our local visionaries, they’re not just offering a physical space, they’re strengthening the fabric of Austin and helping our community thrive.”

Google excited for Sail Tower to become a hub for connection and technological advancement in Austin for years to come.

Welcome to Sail Tower, our newest Austin office

The new Google.org venue at Sail Tower will host nonprofit programming, workshops, and community events.

Google’s iconic Sail Tower (formally known as Block 185) has officially opened its doors in downtown Austin, establishing a highly anticipated, vibrant workplace right next to Lady Bird Lake. Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects and standing nearly 600 feet tall, this 35-story architectural landmark mimics the shape of a billowing ship sail. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Key Highlights of the New Workspace

  • Texas-Themed Floors: Google occupies four floors, each meticulously styled after a distinct Texas region, including Marfa, Big Bend, and the Texas Hill Country. [6]
  • Local Art & Custom Designs: The interior showcases colorful custom installations and artwork from local creators celebrating the state’s natural landscapes. [1, 6]
  • Billowing Terraces: Built with a unique outdoor terrace on every single floor plate, employees can enjoy panoramic waterfront and skyline views. [5, 6, 7]
  • High-Tech Workspace Amenities: The office features advanced collaboration areas, internal connecting staircases, a full-service cafe, walking desks, and even a hidden room behind a bookshelf. [6, 8, 9, 10]

A Hub for the Austin Community

Beyond serving as a workplace for Googlers, the ground floor opens up the building to the broader city economy: [3, 11]

  • Free Nonprofit Venue: A brand new, state-of-the-art Google.org space is available for local Austin metro area nonprofits to book at zero cost.
