To help meet the growing demand for skilled trades workers, Google is joining forces with BlackRock, Carhartt, and Ford to launch the Alliance for America’s Skilled Trades. The founding members of the Alliance have already independently committed to supporting skilled workforce training initiatives in 30 states across the U.S.

To multiply our impact, the alliance is focusing on three key areas:

Building a stronger pipeline for the skilled trades.
Scaling proven, evidence-based training approaches.
Inviting new partners to help expand opportunities nationwide.

Google announcing the Alliance for America’s Skilled Trades

Google has partnered with BlackRock, Carhartt, and Ford Motor Company to officially launch the Alliance for America’s Skilled Trades. Announcing the venture on July 21, 2026, the corporate coalition aims to expand apprenticeships, modernize training programs, and scale pathways into high-demand careers at a national level. The collective effort targets a projected shortage of up to 2.1 million skilled trade positions by 2030, covering critical infrastructure roles such as electricians, welders, technicians, and qualified builders. Core Initiatives and Commitments

30-State Regional Support: Founding members have aligned their resources to fund and boost skilled workforce training initiatives across 30 states. [1, 2]
Google’s $50 Million Commitment: Google.org is deploying $50 million to help train over 300,000 American workers for high-wage infrastructure roles. [5, 6]
Union and Association Backing: Google’s localized funding directly supports 14 labor unions and four trade associations, including the electrical training ALLIANCE (etA), to update curriculums and integrate AI tools. [2, 5]
Non-Degree Pathways: Executed with executive direction from Alphabet’s Ruth Porat, the group intends to lower barriers by focusing heavily on pre-apprenticeship and on-the-job training models over traditional four-year degrees. [7, 8]
