Google Wallet is now rolling out support for Aadhaar

It’s a significant update for digital identity in India. As of late April 2026, Google has officially integrated Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials into Google Wallet through its partnership with the UIDAI.

This isn’t just a digital scan of the card; it uses a privacy-first “selective disclosure” system. This means if you’re verifying your age at a cinema, you can share just your age without revealing your full Aadhaar number or address.

Key Details of the Rollout

• Privacy & Security: The credentials are encrypted and stored locally on your device rather than on Google’s servers.

• Initial Partners: You can already use it with PVR INOX (age verification), BharatMatrimony (profile trust), and Atlys (visa applications).

   

• Coming Soon: Integration for residential security via Mygate and gig-economy verification through Snabbit.

   

How to Add Your Aadhaar

To set it up, you need an Android phone (version 9 or higher) with a screen lock enabled and the official Aadhaar app installed.

1. Via Aadhaar App: Open the app → Sign in → Tap Add to Wallet → Select Google Wallet.

2. Via Google Wallet: Open Wallet → Tap + Add to Wallet → Select ID Pass → Select Aadhaar. This will redirect you to the Aadhaar app to complete the verification.

Once added, the ID can be presented via QR code or NFC for in-person verification, or used to auto-fill details for supported online services.
