Govt target to add 10 Crore LPG Consumers by end of 2018

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister reviews the preparedness and strategy of the OMCs to expand the LPG penetration across the country

The Minister of State (I/C) for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan reviewed the preparedness and strategy of the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to expand the LPG penetration across the country on Tuesday at Mumbai. With 2016 being declared as the ‘Year of LPG Consumers’, he stressed on the need to popularize and make available LPG in an efficient manner, with emphasis on remote and difficult areas of the country. He wanted the OMCs to finalize a transparent, innovative and simplified mechanism of distributorship, including a mechanism for distributing cylinders of smaller capacity. He expressed confidence on the ability of the OMCs to achieve the ambitious target of adding 10 crore more households in the country by the end of 2018. The meeting was attended by senior officers of OMCs engaged in LPG distribution, and the officers of the Ministry.
