OpenAI has officially released ChatGPT for Excel and ChatGPT for Google Sheets in public beta. These native add-ins embed a ChatGPT sidebar directly into your spreadsheets, allowing you to build, update, and analyze data using natural language—no more manual copy-pasting or complex formula memorization.

Instead of just giving you a formula to copy, ChatGPT now has the permission to read and edit your workbook directly.

Build from Scratch: You can prompt, “Create a monthly budget tracker with rows for rent and groceries, add a totals column, and apply conditional formatting for over-budget items,” and ChatGPT will generate the structure, formulas, and styling.

For Microsoft Excel (Desktop & Web)

Open Excel and go to the Home tab.
Click Add-ins and search for “ChatGPT” by OpenAI.
Click Add and sign in with your OpenAI account.
Launch it anytime from the ribbon to open the sidebar.

For Google Sheets

Open a sheet and go to Extensions > Add-ons > Get add-ons.
