Introducing Gemini for Google TV

Google TV is getting a major intelligence boost in 2026 as Gemini begins to replace or significantly upgrade the traditional Google Assistant experience. This rollout transforms the TV from a simple streaming hub into a more interactive, conversational companion.

Here are the key features and updates currently rolling out:

📺 Smarter Control & Learning from Introducing Gemini for Google TV

• Natural Language Settings: You can now adjust your TV’s hardware settings using conversational phrases. Instead of digging through menus, you can simply say, “The screen is too dim” or “The dialogue is lost,” and Gemini will automatically adjust the brightness or sound profile.

• Deep Dives: For curious viewers, Gemini provides narrated, interactive overviews of complex topics (like science, health, or technology). While watching, you can select “Dive deeper” to see visual breakdowns and follow-up questions designed for the whole family.

• Sports & News Briefs: Building on the success of news summaries, Gemini now offers Sports Briefs. You can get narrated highlights and game summaries for leagues like the NBA, NHL, and MLB directly from the Gemini tab.

🖼️ Personal Media & Creativity

• AI-Powered Photo Search: You can search your Google Photos library conversationally (e.g., “Find that photo of us at the beach three years ago”).

• Photos Remix: Once you find a photo, you can use the built-in Nano Banana model to “remix” it into different artistic styles, like watercolor or 3D animation, or turn memories into “cinematic immersive slideshows.”

• On-Screen Generation: For the first time, you can generate original images and videos (via Veo) directly on your TV to use as custom screensavers or just for fun.

   

🌐 Availability & Requirements

The rollout is happening in stages throughout 2026:

• Current Devices: Initially available on the Google TV Streamer, select TCL and Hisense models, and the Walmart onn. 4K Pro.

• Expansion: Broader support for other Google TV devices (running Android 14+ with at least 2GB of RAM) is arriving this spring.

• Regions: Currently live in the U.S. and Canada, with a rollout to Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain scheduled for later this spring.

To access these features, your TV must be linked to the Google Home app, and you can manage your preferences through the new Gemini tab at the top of your home screen.
