Ranking of Higher Education Institutions

The Ministry of HRD has ranked top 100 Universities, 100 Engineering, 50 Management and 50 Pharmacy colleges in the country based on National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The details of these are available at NIRF websitehttps://www.nirfindia.org/Ranking.

 

No proposal to conduct independent evaluation of these institutions and universities and to apply this scheme on the primary and secondary schools is under consideration of the Ministry. 

The criteria adopted for finalizing the performance of various institutions are as follows:

i) Teaching, Learning and Resources

ii) Research and Professional Practices

iii) Graduation Outcomes

iv) Outreach and Inclusivity

v) Perception

 

The Engineering Institutes have been classified into two categories namely Research & Teaching and Teaching and the ranking has been carried out for the institutions who have applied under the category of Research and Teaching. The details of these are available at NIRF website https://www.nirfindia.org/Ranking.

The Government has received constructive inputs and suggestions from various stakeholders regarding the overall ranking and the same are being considered by the Ministry to improve the ranking system. The scope of NIRF will be widened to promote quality education and research in institutions in the country.

This  information was given by the Union Human Resource Development Minister,         Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani today in a written reply to a Lok Sabha question.
