Reclaiming India’s Wealth: Leaders Launch Mega Drive for Unclaimed Deposits

National Leaders Championing Citizen Rights

  • The ‘Your Money, Your Right’ (‘आपका पैसा, आपका अधिकार’) mega camp in New Delhi was led by Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta and Union Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary on November 27, 2025.
  • The initiative aims to empower citizens to claim their unclaimed financial assets, which include bank deposits, fixed deposits, insurance policies, shares, and mutual fund investments.
  • CM Gupta emphasized the government’s focus on financial inclusion and the use of digital facilities to restore these assets, affirming that the effort is about the “restoration of rights, fulfillment of justice, and affirmation of your entitlements.”

Significant Progress and Financial Inclusion Foundation

  • The campaign, inaugurated on October 4, 2025, has already returned over ₹18.87 billion to citizens nationwide within a short period of two months.
  • MoS Chaudhary highlighted that the initiative reflects the government’s citizen-centric vision and builds upon a strong foundation of financial inclusion schemes (like PMJDY, PMJJBY, etc.) established over the past decade.

The “3A” Strategy for Recovery

  • The Department of Financial Services (DFS) Secretary, Shri M. Nagaraju, noted that the campaign is designed around a “3A Framework”: Awareness, Accessibility, and Action.
  • Awareness efforts include translating campaign videos and preparing detailed booklets with FAQs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) into various regional languages to help families navigate the claim process with confidence.

Focus on the Capital’s Pending Balance

  • The DFS Secretary informed that the pending balance related to Delhi’s Deposited Education and Awareness (DEA) fund stood at ₹3,210.84 crore as of August 31, 2025.
  • This figure indicates that a very large amount is still inaccessible to citizens in the National Capital, underscoring the need for the strong local engagement seen at the New Delhi mega camp.
