Start the year AI-ready with the Google AI Educator Series

The Google AI Educator Series (GES) has new modules coming soon, including Guided Learning and AI Quests. See how teachers are using GES to get AI ready for the new year, and how you can get your first (or next) badge in just 10 minutes.

Back-to-school season is filled with new possibilities, but can also bring the challenge of navigating a rapidly changing AI landscape. To help you use this technology with confidence, we created the Google AI Educator Series (GES) — a no cost, on-demand training designed to give you practical AI skills you can use immediately — with bite-sized sessions taking less than 15 minutes to earn a badge.

Today, we’re adding even more content and announcing a national Badge-a-thon on September 19. Designed specifically for K-12 educators, this flexible, 10-hour virtual event lets you drop in for lightning talks, get hands-on training, and earn official ISTE-aligned digital badges live.

Expanding your skills with monthly updates

We listened closely to feedback from educators who completed our initial series and asked for more hands-on practical applications. We are now adding new GES modules on the first Wednesday of every month, complete with rigorous checks for understanding. Here’s what you can accomplish with our latest modules:

  • Eliminate visible work: Learn how to identify frequent, simple tasks — like drafting notification emails to parents when an assignment is missed — and automate them through Google tools to reclaim time with your students.
  • Provide personalized support: The Active Problem-Solving module introduces Gemini’s Guided Learning feature, which helps students work through complex problems with Socratic guidance.
  • Elevate student research: For our higher education community, the Planning the Inquiry module demonstrates how to use Gemini’s Deep Research feature to build skills in student research and inquiry for papers and theses.
  • Build interactive learning experiences: With “AI Quest: Market Marshes,” you will learn how to teach students through interactive game-based learning experiences based on real-world topics, from human agency to flood forecasting.

Meeting educators where they are

Developed in partnership with experts like ISTE+ASCD – a global network for K-12 curriculum design and educational technology – we launched GES in May based on feedback from educators around the world, explaining that training not only need to be flexible, but applicable to their everyday teaching needs We’re already seeing how teachers use these skills to set up their classrooms for success, and their stories show us what is possible.

Since we launched GES, we’ve heard two key themes from educators:

  • A desire for practical application: Beyond the excitement, educators are asking, “How do I use this in my classroom tomorrow?” They want to learn how to integrate new AI tools into lesson plans.
  • A need for community: Educators want a space to share ideas, recognizing that the most powerful innovations come from learning from one another.

A professor shares how the Google AI educator series can help higher education facilitators integrate Gemini and NotebookLM into their classrooms.

We consistently hear that for professional development to be truly effective, it must be flexible, accessible, and respect an educator’s busy schedule. It needs to deliver value in the small pockets of time teachers can carve out for themselves.

A speaker talks about how the Google AI Educator series program provides a valuable way for teachers to engage in bite-sized, interest-driven learning whenever they have the time.

Educators are excited about AI’s potential to be a creative partner in the classroom allowing them to explore new ways to teach. Vibe coding – AI and coding through natural language– allows teachers to create custom solutions for their students without having to spend significant time searching for existing tools that may not meet their specific needs.

Google's new AI Educator series available for K-12, higher education

Start the year AI-ready

The Google AI Educator Series (GES) is a free, on-demand professional development initiative designed by Google for Education to equip teachers with practical artificial intelligence skills. Originally launched in May 2026, the program has expanded with monthly micro-training updates to help K-12 and higher education teachers automate workflows, personalize student support, and model responsible AI use. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]
The curriculum is built directly on the official Google AI Educator Series Portal in partnership with ISTE+ASCD. This alignment ensures that everything taught matches recognized standards and maps to the ideal profile of an AI-Ready Graduate. [2, 5, 7]

📚 Program Structure & Formats

The training is purposely built around a “snackable and stackable” model. This means modules are bite-sized, independent, and require no prerequisites so teachers can fit them easily into a busy schedule. [5, 7, 8]
  • K-12 Educators: Sessions span 10 to 15 minutes and focus on immediate classroom utility.
  • Higher Education Faculty: Sessions span 30 to 45 minutes and focus on advanced issues like syllabus updates and managing student cognitive load.
  • Multilingual Options: Available in English, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Assamese, Odia, and Punjabi.
  • Cadence: Fresh modules and quizzes launch on the first Wednesday of every month. [1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 10]

🛠️ Core Learning Pillars

The curriculum divides its focus across three main functional tracks:

└──────────────────┘ └──────────────────┘ └──────────────────┘
  1. Foundational Understanding: Demystifies generative AI and focuses heavily on the basic capabilities of Google Gemini and LearnLM models. [2, 11]
  2. Pedagogical Applications: Shows how to use AI to change teaching methods. This includes features like Gemini’s Guided Learning, which uses Socratic-style dialogue to guide students through a problem rather than just giving them the answer. Other topics cover Deep Research and AI Quests. [2, 3, 6, 10, 12]
  3. Administrative Applications: Teaches techniques to eliminate repetitive backend work—like summarizing reports or drafting routine notification emails to parents—allowing educators to spend more 1-on-1 time with students. [6, 11]

🏅 Digital Badging & Recognition

Every short training session concludes with a minor assessment. Passing it instantly unlocks an official Google digital micro-badge to authenticate the educator’s skill development. These stackable credentials provide measurable evidence of ongoing modern professional development. [1, 5, 8, 10, 11] Start the year AI-ready
