What is Acknowledgement Number in ITR
In the context of Income Tax Return (ITR), an acknowledgement number is a unique identification number that is generated when you file your ITR online. It is a 15-digit number that is provided by the Income Tax Department as a proof of filing your return.
The acknowledgement number is an important reference number that can be used to track the status of your ITR, confirm its receipt, and also to check if there are any discrepancies or errors in your return. It is recommended to keep a copy of the acknowledgement number for your records.
When you file your ITR online, you will receive the acknowledgement number on your registered email ID and phone number. If you do not receive the acknowledgement number, you can also retrieve it by logging into the Income Tax e-filing portal and navigating to the ‘View Returns/Forms’ section.
