Build and share apps in Codex
Build and share apps in Codex
Starting in preview for business and enterprise customers, Codex can now create and share interactive, hosted websites and apps.
Sites are a new kind of canvas for your ideas. Codex can take your ideas, analysis, and plans and turn them into dashboards, planners, review workspaces, project boards, galleries, and lightweight tools. Today, sites can be shared with anyone in your workspace via URL, giving teams a shared place to explore work, contribute input, track progress, and make decisions together.

Building and sharing apps in the Codex desktop app is designed to be a streamlined, conversational process that turns ideas into functional tools in minutes. Codex can handle everything from lightweight web apps to native iOS and macOS applications. [1, 2, 3, 4]
How to Build Your App
- Set Up the Workspace: Open the Codex app and start a new chat, selecting a model like GPT-5 (or newer) with your desired reasoning level. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
- Assign Plugins (If Needed): Use the “@” mention feature to evoke specific workflows. For example, use
@build-web-appsto structure a website or@vercelto automate deployment. [1, 2] - Describe the Workflow: Clearly define the goal. Tell the AI who the app is for, what users should accomplish, and any specific source material it should inspect. [1]
- Test & Deploy: Ask Codex to run the project for testing. With plugins like Sites and Vercel, it can build, deploy, and return a live URL you can share. [1, 2]
How to Share Apps and Plugins
- Web Apps: For full-stack web apps deployed through Sites/Vercel, simply copy and share the generated live URL with your team. You can manage granular access and limit views to specific invited individuals. [1, 2]
- Codex Plugins: If you built a plugin, you can share it directly within your ChatGPT workspace. Go to Plugins > Created by you, open the plugin details, select Share, and specify your teammates or workspace. [1, 2]
If you want, tell me more about the project you have in mind:
- Are you building a web app, a Mac/iOS app, or an internal tool?
- What is the primary workflow or core feature your users need?
