Create, preview, and edit files directly in the Gemini app

We’re introducing new ways to create and refine files and code in the Gemini app. You can now generate, preview, and edit files right within your Gemini app chat—expand to full screen to type edits directly, highlight text to ask questions, or have Gemini refine them. PDF preview and editing is supported on both the web and mobile, while all other formats (documents, spreadsheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files, and code) are supported on the web only. Here are just some of the new things you can do:

Generate and refine slide decks: Create presentation outlines or slide content, preview the layout in chat, and edit directly or ask Gemini to adjust the tone and structure before opening in Google Slides, or downloading as a PPTX or PDF.
Build and export Google Sheets: Generate structured trackers, tables, and data models from a prompt, preview them in Gemini, and open them directly in Google Sheets.
Edit documents and PDFs: Quickly draft PDFs, Google Docs, LaTeX, Markdown, or TXT files, and make manual or prompted edits inline on web or in a full-screen view—plus you can upload all of them to Drive.

These capabilities are now available to all users in all languages where the Gemini app is available.

Getting started

Admins: There is no admin control for this feature. Visit the Help Center to learn more about turning the Gemini app on or off.
End users: Users of all ages who have access to the Gemini app can generate files. To get started, ask Gemini to generate your desired file type. Visit the Help Center to learn more.

How to Get Started 🚀

Open the Gemini Web App or your Gemini mobile app. [1, 2]
Prompt Gemini to create a file (e.g., “Create a PDF study guide from my uploaded notes” or “Build a Google Sheet tracker for my project” ). [1, 2]
Click on the generated file preview to expand to full screen to type your own edits, or highlight a section to tell Gemini how to refine it. [1, 2]
Once satisfied, you can open the file directly in its native Google Workspace app or download it locally (e.g., as a .pptx, .xlsx, or .pdf). [1]
