Small businesses can now seamlessly import users from Microsoft to Google Workspace

We’re excited to announce the beta release of a new, simplified way for very small and small-sized businesses to import their users from Microsoft to Google Workspace when setting up their Workspace account for the first time.

This new feature allows these businesses and educational institutions to automatically copy their existing Microsoft users into Google Workspace. Once you connect to Microsoft, the system automatically identifies users in your Microsoft account and prepares to add them in your new Google Workspace account. This feature significantly reduces the time and effort of switching from Microsoft and helps you get your organization up and running in no time.

If you are a small business looking to switch from Microsoft to Google Workspace, you can now import up to 10 Microsoft users automatically through this new feature. Visit the Help Center to learn how to import more than 10 users from Microsoft.
You can import emails, calendars, contacts, and OneDrive files for the imported users through the data import tool in the Admin console.
You can import users only after completing your domain verification.

Getting started

Admins: This feature will be available in the setup process for Google Workspace. Once you’ve verified your domain and activated your email records, you will find an option to import your users from Microsoft to Google Workspace before completing the setup. Visit the Help Center to learn more about importing business data during setup.
End users: This feature is for admins only.

Google Workspace Admin Help: Import business data during setup (beta)

Google rolled out a new beta feature that allows very small and small-sized businesses to automatically copy existing Microsoft users directly into Google Workspace with just a single click during the initial setup process.

This update bridges a major gap for small businesses that don’t have dedicated IT teams or the bandwidth to fiddle with CSV mapping files, third-party migration software, or complex domain routing.

🔑 Key Details of the New Feature

Automated User Provisioning: Instead of creating every single employee account from scratch in Google, the system connects to your Microsoft business account, automatically identifies all existing users, and prepares to add them directly to your new Workspace account.
The 10-User Threshold: The built-in, single-click setup wizard supports importing up to 10 users automatically. Organizations with larger teams can still make the jump but will be directed to standard Help Center tools for larger batches.
Data Migration Follow-up: Once the users are seamlessly created, admins can immediately use the Data Import tool in the Admin console to pull over historical data, including emails, calendars, contacts, and OneDrive files to the newly minted accounts.

📋 Prerequisites & Where to Find It

Domain Verification is Required: Google requires you to complete your basic domain verification and activate your email records before the option appears.
The Setup Wizard: The feature lives directly inside the initial Google Workspace setup flow. Once the domain check passes, you will see a prompt to connect your Microsoft business account.
Admin Privileges: You must log in with Global Administrator credentials on the Microsoft side and Super Admin credentials on the Google side to authorize the secure handshake.
