Google has ever so slightly tweaked the Gemini app icon with more color
As we head into I/O 2026, Google is tweaking the Gemini app icon to be a touch more colorful.
There are no changes to the shape of the spark — as it’s officially called — but it is slightly larger than before. Since the redesign last July, blue has been the dominant color.
With today’s tweak, blue has shrunk a bit from the top, left, and bottom quadrants to make way for more red, yellow, and green.
Old vs. new

Additionally, those colors are much more vibrant and solid with less of a gradient.
Again, this is a tweak, and most will likely not spot the change, especially at app icon or web favicon sizes.
This is rolling out with version 1.0.913571982 of the Gemini app on Android that provides the homescreen shortcut. It’s not yet widely rolled out.
The updated icon is already available on iOS and the Gemini app for macOS.

You’ve got a sharp eye! Google did indeed push out a subtle visual tweak to the Gemini app icon, rolling it out right alongside the latest updates.
While the change is definitely a “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” pixel-peeper adjustment, here is exactly what changed:
-
More Vibrant Brand Colors: While the overall shape of the Gemini spark remained identical, the blue gradient—which previously dominated the icon—has shrunk away slightly from the top, left, and bottom edges. In its place, the classic Google red, yellow, and green shades have reclaimed a bit more real estate.
-
Solid Gradients: The colors themselves are slightly less washed out and lean into a more vibrant, solid aesthetic compared to the softer, heavy-blue gradient of the previous version.
-
Slightly Larger Scale: The spark graphic sits just a tiny bit larger inside its icon container to make it a hair more scannable at small homescreen or web favicon sizes.
It’s an incremental shift, but it seems Google is intent on standardizing its four-color visual language across all its services to signal exactly where its AI is tightly integrated.
