The new Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform is here

It’s a massive shift. As of April 2026, Google has officially moved beyond “models as a service” and transformed Vertex AI into the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.

This isn’t just a rebranding; it’s a full-stack environment designed for the “agentic era.” Here are the highlights of what’s actually in the box:

1. The Development Duo: Studio & ADK

Google is targeting both ends of the technical spectrum:

• Agent Studio: A low-code, visual interface for business users to build and test agents using natural language.

• Agent Development Kit (ADK): A major code-first upgrade for engineers. It uses a new graph-based framework that allows you to organize agents into networks of specialized “sub-agents” to solve complex, multi-step problems.

2. Solving “Institutional Amnesia”

One of the biggest hurdles for agents has been context loss. The platform introduces:

• Agent Memory Bank: This provides persistent, long-term context. Agents can now “remember” project histories and specific user preferences over days or months, rather than resetting after every session.

   

• Agent Runtime: Re-engineered for long-running agents that can stay active for days to complete autonomous workflows.

   

3. Enterprise-Grade Governance

To prevent “shadow AI” and security leaks, Google added:

• Agent Identity: Every agent gets a unique cryptographic ID. This creates an auditable trail, so you know exactly which agent took which action.

• Agent Gateway: Acts as “air traffic control,” enforcing security policies and “Model Armor” protections to block prompt injections in real-time.

   

4. The Hardware Muscle

Running thousands of autonomous agents is computationally expensive. Google launched its eighth-generation TPUs to support this:

• TPU 8t: Designed for ultra-fast training.

• TPU 8i: Optimized specifically for inference (running the agents), claiming an 80% improvement in performance-per-dollar.

5. Multi-Model Ecosystem

While it’s a Gemini-first platform, it isn’t a walled garden. It supports Gemini 3.1 Pro and Flash, but also allows you to “hot-swap” reasoning engines with third-party models like Anthropic’s Claude 4.7 Opus.
