Google Meet now supports sending 1080p HD video from Chrome OS meeting room hardware
We previously launched support for sending full HD video (1080p) in Meet on the web, and we’re now extending that capability to Google Meet room hardware based on ChromeOS.
- On large screens: When others in the call are viewing the room on large monitors or TVs with a layout that makes 1080p necessary, such as full-screen views in Spotlight mode, 1:1 calls or dual-screen rooms.
- When someone pins your video: If a person in the meeting “pins” the room, Meet will send the highest available quality.
- When the meeting is being recorded: Recorded meetings use full HD from the room for the saved meeting video.
Getting started
- Admins: There is no admin control for this feature.
- End users: There is no end user setting for this feature; the upgrade happens seamlessly in the background when conditions are met.

How 1080p Transmission Works in Meeting Rooms
- Large Display Layouts: When remote participants view the meeting room on large external monitors or television screens, particularly in full-screen views like Spotlight mode, 1:1 calls, or dual-screen setups. [1]
- Pinned Video Feed: If any active participant in the meeting decides to “pin” the specific meeting room’s video feed to their layout. [1]
- Active Meeting Recording: When a meeting session is being natively recorded, the room will push Full HD video to ensure the final saved file preserves maximum quality. [1]
Hardware and Network Requirements
- Peripherals: The room configuration must feature a high-resolution, 1080p-capable camera.
- Processing Power: The localized ChromeOS compute system must have enough processing capacity to handle the extra data load.
- Bandwidth Control: A fast, stable internet connection is required. If the network experiences sudden constraints or congestion, Meet will automatically scale the resolution down to keep the audio and overall meeting experience smooth. [1, 5]
